  Global Reconstruction 2026: From CAD Scales to City-Scale Recovery As I sat at my desk this morning looking at a set of maps, I couldn't help but reflect on the sheer scale of what is happening globally. In my world, we talk about 1:50 scales and the precision of a 0.5mm technical pen . But in Ukraine, Israel, and Iran , the "scale" of construction required over the next decade is almost unfathomable. The $600 Billion Blueprint Current March 2026 estimates for Ukraine’s reconstruction have hit a staggering $588 billion (see source below)  What does that look like on a drawing board?  CPD Update Week Commencing 24th August 2020 This newsletter is meant to link into my CPD web site and highlight current CPD I have found to this week. Take a look at the website for a complete list of information linked to CPD. So down to this week, a lot of the week has been updating the web site to show new webinars, and what I call static webinars on Youtube. Plus I have extended the site to cover, my reading, plus a specific photograph section. Record-Keeping had also been included plus research, which I now see as the basis of so much CPD, search techniques and search term and filters.

The Architectural Grid

The Architectural Grid As part of my update for Mitchells Construction, I thought I would add a section within Structures on the Use of the Architectural Grid, with a passing mention in Strucrures, Site layout, and possibly Surveying. All buildings, from the simple shed to complex skyscrapers, need to stand up under its own weight, the weather and occupants and Dead loads . It is importand to understand the path of the load though the building, in relation to both the internal layout and their use. A grid helps to both coordinate these loads, and define and control the location of the structure floor by floor, and its here we start to define the grid as not just a single one layer floor, but for all floors controlled by a vertical grid. Distributing the Load The masons of old, soon found out that ignoring the load created by the structure on the ground will inevitably lead to the buildings collapse, and that cutting or excavating the top soil and any unstable layers below was essential...
